The Alphapoetic System

The ABC's series of educational resources is based upon the use of the alphabet and simple rhyme couplets which are used to provide 26 salient points of information/reference. Each of the rhyme elements is expanded to introduce further suggestions of study within the context of the topic.

Incorporating a segment of knowledge into the sequential framework of the alphabet, and at the same time describing the major concepts of that knowledge base within a rhythmic pattern enhances retention and recall.

1. The Alphapoetic Rhyme Couplets:
A selection of 26 rhyming couplets based upon a specific theme. The use of alphabet and couplet provides an easy way for the teacher to provide students with a framework through which they will learn about a given topic.

2. Mini-Lesson Units:
A five minute discussion point or mini lesson based upon the alphapoetic word and rhyme. The unit includes additional vocabulary keyed to the word featured in the rhyme and a selection of research or discussion topics.

3. Lyrics & Lessons:
The song lyrics are provided with focus points for each verse and reference to the Alphapoetic units to which they can be used as reinforcement and support. They should be used with the actual song recording.

4. Just-A-Minute:
A very entertaining and effective exercise based upon a long established BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) Game show. Students, in teams, have the opportunity to reinforce speaking and listening skills as they explore the safety or crime prevention topics.

5. 60 Second Theater:
Another group activity which provides for the use of skits and dramatic interpretation of the elements in the ABC unit.

6. Book Marks:
The masters for 26 bookmarks are provided and the students may produce a class set or individual sets for use in school or at home. The activity is practical and the end product reinforces the topic.

7. Interactive CD-ROM:
A stand-alone or integral component of the program. The CD-ROM reinforces the message through use of the audio reading of the rhymes, purpose shot vide vignettes and topic focused activities which reinforce information and skills.
